“Cloud Bags with Pricetag Poems,” 15 bags installed, approx 10′ x 10′. Plastic produce bags, organic cotton, letterpressed poems. 2007/2009. Installed at the Illinois State Museum, Chicago Gallery, in a solo exhibition in 2009. I’ve also included a photograph of the carte de visite that I handed out at the exhibition.
POEM:
the loss of bees as metaphor/ apparent complexity
evidence of the failures of language/ this simple
exchange of gold for pepper/ of stone for paper/
contemplate the commodification of clouds/ take
those words on trust/ rivers wind through
forests/ as clouds/ as “jetstream”/ clouds to rain
to glass to blood/ he is calculating the cost v.
benefit[sic] ratio of copyrighting DNA/
“based on simple commerce and human desire” (www.dnacopyright.com)/ or the mysterious,
unexplained deaths of aspens/ (these are
new forms of memory)/ residual shadow as space
holder of light
