Final Voyage, wool quilt made of felted discarded sweaters and silk embroidery thread. Approx. 6′ x 13.’ 2010-12.
The entire quilt was sewn by hand. I embroidered three versions of the poem onto the quilt, ‘erasing’ the previous version with a steel wool brush. The poem was an answer to a question: what would a fisherman make on the last voyage, when there are no more edible fish left in the sea, only jellyfish? The New York Review of Books addressed the jellyfish question in this review.
This piece was installed with Highway Dreams, a series of 4″x6″ snapshots of nighttime on highways, at Governors State University Art Gallery in 2013.
